There's a Blue Sky Outside

I thought I'd share with you all a poem I really like. I hope it encourages you.

There’s a blue sky outside
But I don’t have the soul
Nor strength to take hold
And open the window wide.

I’d cut myself to pieces
If I crashed through the glass.
I’d lace my blood with fire
But the glass would not be cracked.

If I reached out my hand
If I could plunge it through
The silver glass like water
If through it I could wander

I’d have to be a ghost
I’d have to be dead
I’d have to be some Other
A strength beyond measure.

My skin is drenched in blood
Wings twisted out of shape
My body’s bruised and broken
From the war against the cage.

And still the sunlight gleams outside
And still I hear the far-off strains—
A crystal voice’s melody
Painful for its harmony.

Painful for its loveliness
Painful for its purity
Painful; for it’s far beyond
The clamor of this sanity.

For in this common chaos
Of the world’s reality
I rather see insanity
Nothing here is sound.

Oh God, how long must I go on
Trying to break what I cannot
Save me from my self-made darkness
Break me out of nothingness.

You’re the one who cracks the glass
You’re the one who reaches through
You laced Your blood with fire
But Your star arose still brighter.

Take me away, far away
From this fake reality
From insecure complacency
From complacent misery

Fly me through the silver glass
On wings as soft and warm as steel
Enfold me in your sweet embrace
In skies of blue, sing over me.
